About the CNG facility
One of the first projects of its kind in Australia, the operation involves compressing natural gas into cylinders in Alice Springs and transporting them to Territory Generation’s Yulara Power Station, 18 kilometres from Uluru, previously known as Ayers Rock.
The operation includes gas plants at Alice Springs and Yulara.
Gas from the Palm Valley-Alice Springs natural gas pipeline is compressed into carbon fibre cylinders at the Alice Springs compression station and hauled 440km to fuel the power station.
The operation delivers significant environmental benefits as CNG produces lower emissions of particulates, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide than diesel.
